West Waterford secures land for eight-lane athletics track
The club will move into design and planning after signing a college lease.
Source publication date:
West Waterford Athletics Club signed a lease with St Augustine’s College in Dungarvan for land to develop an eight-lane athletics facility. The agreement was completed on 27 February and was reported by Athletics Ireland in March as a major step in the project.
The college has hosted the club since its foundation in 1994, including training, school sports and county, provincial and national cross-country championships. The proposed track is intended to serve regional clubs, schools and the wider West Waterford community.
Principal John Keane and Olympian Jamie Costin welcomed the agreement. The club’s next step is to complete a design before submitting a planning application to Waterford City and County Council, while seeking community support for construction.
