Dorothea Wierer completed her final biathlon competition in the Olympic women’s mass start at Antholz, closing a career that began at the same venue more than twenty years earlier. She had announced that the home Games would mark her retirement.

Wierer left Milano Cortina with a mixed relay silver medal, adding another Olympic podium to a career that included medals beginning in Sochi. Her development had progressed through youth and junior world titles before she established herself on the senior circuit.

The Italian won consecutive World Cup overall championships in 2019 and 2020, then two individual world titles at Antholz in 2020. Her final Olympic race completed a long-planned farewell in front of home supporters at the venue central to her career.
