Climbing assembly approves legal name change and membership approach
No national federation suspension was recommended and athlete eligibility remained unchanged.
Source publication date:
World Climbing’s extraordinary assembly approved the statutory change from International Federation of Sport Climbing to World Climbing on 23 July. The federation said the name change did not alter its governance structure or sporting operations.
Members adopted a principles-based approach instead of holding individual suspension votes concerning Belarus, Russia and Israel. No recommendation to suspend a national federation was made; formal decisions remain an Executive Board responsibility.
Allegations concerning Russia and Israel were referred to the Disciplinary Commission. A referral is not a finding of a breach and had no immediate consequence. Athlete eligibility remained unchanged, including the existing policy for eligible neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes.
