Yamal winner keeps Barcelona four points clear

Barcelona defeated Athletic Club 1-0 at San Mamés through a second-half Lamine Yamal goal. The victory preserved Barcelona’s four-point lead at the top of La Liga after a difficult match in which the home side created several threatening opportunities.

João Cancelo nearly scored an own goal in the opening minute, striking his own crossbar. Athletic also had an Iñaki Williams effort ruled out for offside, while Joan Garcia remained busy in goal as Barcelona struggled to convert possession into a breakthrough.

Pedri supplied Yamal in the 68th minute and the teenager curled his finish in off the far post. Barcelona then resisted Athletic’s push for an equaliser, securing three points before their Champions League trip to Newcastle and next domestic meeting with Sevilla.
