Yeovil Olympiads secure facility support and strengthen club governance
Council cooperation and investment followed an earlier threat to the athletics track.
Source publication date:
Yeovil Olympiads described progress in securing its long-term future after a threatened closure of local athletics facilities. The club worked with members and stakeholders to oppose the plan, and Yeovil Town Council subsequently took over facility management from Somerset Council.
Investment from British Gas Energy for Tomorrow improved the clubhouse with insulation, upgraded windows, heating, ventilation, solar panels and battery storage. The changes aim to reduce energy costs and provide a more resilient base for continued athletics activity in the area.
The club also completed all seven England Athletics Club Standards, including recruiting and training welfare volunteers. It has shared its experience through leadership and development programmes, while considering additional funetics sessions with the town council as a potential route for introducing younger children to athletics.
