Young throwers finish winter championships with record marks
Jones’s final javelin throw and Brown’s hammer best highlighted the second day.

England’s Winter Long Throws Championships ended with personal bests and championship records across the younger age groups. Henry Jones won the under-eighteen men’s javelin with a final-round personal best of 64.72 metres, overtaking long-time leader Ned Scott.
Adanna Udechuku improved her under-sixteen discus best by six metres to reach 39.00 and win, while Sidney Shorrock added more than two metres to her previous mark in the under-eighteen competition. The programme also featured strong head-to-head battles in the women’s javelin.
Gethin Brown set an under-eighteen hammer championship best of 64.38 metres. Between events, athletes, parents and coaches joined question sessions with established throwers, including javelin figures Goldie Sayers, Steve Backley, Nick Nieland and Mick Hill.
