Bartunkova beats Sabalenka to reach the Beijing last 16
The Czech player won 6–4, 6–3, saving every break point she faced against the world No. 2.
Nikola Bartunkova defeated Aryna Sabalenka 6–4, 6–3 in the third round of the China Open on 4 October. The match lasted one hour and 35 minutes and put the Czech player into the last 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.
Bartunkova protected her opening-set advantage by saving five break points. She then established a 3–1 lead in the second set and faced no break point in that set, according to the WTA’s analysis. Across the match she converted three of her eight chances to break.
The WTA recorded this as Bartunkova’s second career victory over a top-10 opponent and her second WTA 1000 last-16 appearance. Her next scheduled opponent was Sinja Kraus. Reuters placed Sabalenka’s exit in the context of a season in which she had reached the US Open final but lost to Elena Rybakina. The Beijing result is a completed match; the next-round pairing remains a scheduled fixture.
