France completed the first three days of the Men’s EHF EURO 2000 with a third consecutive victory, beating Germany 25–19 in Zagreb on 23 January. The French side established a 15–9 half-time lead. Both teams scored ten after the interval, leaving the six-goal first-half difference intact at the final whistle.

How it unfolded

Jackson Richardson led France with eight goals, followed by Bertrand Gille with five and Patrick Cazal with four. Kretzschmar scored six for Germany, Markus Baur four and Daniel Stephan three. Germany converted two of seven seven-metre throws, while France scored from its only attempt. The match was played before an official attendance of 5,000.

The wider picture

France had already defeated Norway and Ukraine, placing the team alongside unbeaten Spain at the front of Group A. Those national teams met in the next round, with France winning 28–22. Germany’s draw with Ukraine and defeat against Croatia preceded this loss. Germany later finished fifth in the group; France completed the round unbeaten and advanced.
