Denmark overturns Iceland’s interval lead for its first EURO 2000 win
Denmark gained its first points at the Men’s EHF EURO 2000 with a 26–24 win over Iceland in Zagreb on 25 January. Iceland led 14–13 at half-time, but Denmark outscored its opponent 13–10 in the second half. The three-goal change after the interval gave Denmark a two-goal victory after three opening defeats.

How it unfolded
Morten Bjerre scored six for Denmark, Christian Hjermind and Nikolaj Jacobsen five each, and Joachim Boldsen four. Valdimar Grímsson led Iceland with six, followed by Gustaf Bjarnason with five and Ólafur Stefánsson with four. Denmark converted three of four seven-metre throws; Iceland made two from four. The official attendance was 800.

Denmark had lost to Russia, Sweden and Slovenia before this fixture. Iceland had also entered without a point and remained winless through four matches. Their final preliminary opponents were Portugal and Slovenia respectively.
