How it unfolded
Carlos Resende scored ten goals for Portugal, while Filipe Cruz added six and Eduardo Coelho four. Valdimar Grímsson supplied nine of Iceland’s 25 and Ólafur Stefánsson five. Iceland converted all four seven-metre throws, and Portugal scored six from eight attempts. The official match record lists an attendance of 1,200.
The wider picture
The victory followed Portugal’s 28–27 opening win over Slovenia and placed the team among Group B’s unbeaten sides. Portugal next faced Sweden, losing 29–21, while Iceland met Russia.
