Spain beats Germany 27–25 to complete its semi-final qualifying group campaign
Spain completed the preliminary round of the Men’s EHF EURO 2000 with a 27–25 victory over Germany in Rijeka on 27 January. Spain led 12–9 at the interval. Germany outscored Spain 16–15 in the second half, but the Spanish team protected enough of its opening advantage to finish the match two goals ahead.

Spain completed the preliminary round of the Men’s EHF EURO 2000 with a 27–25 victory over Germany in Rijeka on 27 January. Spain led 12–9 at the interval. Germany outscored Spain 16–15 in the second half, but the Spanish team protected enough of its opening advantage to finish the match two goals ahead.
How it unfolded
Rafael Guijosa and Enric Masip each scored six for Spain, with Andrei Xepkin adding five. Markus Baur and Bernd Roos also scored six apiece for Germany, followed by Klaus-Dieter Petersen with four. Both teams converted four seven-metre throws; Spain had six attempts and Germany seven. The official attendance was 3,000.
The wider picture
The win gave Spain four victories and one defeat, worth eight points and second place in Group A behind France. Spain therefore advanced to a semi-final against Sweden on 29 January. Germany finished fifth in the group with two points from two draws and no victories, taking the team into the ninth-place match against Denmark.
