Advanced open water officials clinic set for Larnaca
Level three training becomes mandatory for chief referees and safety officers from 2026.
Source publication date:
European Aquatics confirmed a level three open water officiating clinic in Larnaca on 21 and 22 March. From the 2026 season, this highest training stage becomes mandatory for officials seeking appointment as chief referee or safety officer at the federation’s open water events.
The programme combines a theoretical module and examination with supervised practical appointments at designated competitions. Applicants must hold level two certification, provide substantial national and international experience, and receive nomination and English-language confirmation from their national federation.
Applications close on 8 March, with places potentially limited to thirty. Successful certification remains valid until the end of 2027. The course will address regulations, operational control, risk management and safety decisions before candidates progress to the practical assessment component.
