Aicher wins Soldeu super-G and closes globe gap
The German won by 0.88 seconds ahead of Robinson and Suter.
Source publication date:
Emma Aicher won the women’s World Cup super-G in Soldeu, beating Alice Robinson by 0.88 seconds and Corinne Suter by 0.98. The twenty-two-year-old German earned her second super-G victory of the season and third of her career.
The hundred points moved Aicher from seventh to third in the discipline standings, ninety-six points behind Sofia Goggia with three races remaining. She also narrowed Mikaela Shiffrin’s overall championship lead to 299 points after returning from two Olympic silver medals.
Aicher’s run down the Aliga course delivered a substantial winning margin in a field including the previous day’s downhill winner. The result strengthened her position in both the super-G and overall contests as the post-Olympic World Cup programme continued.
