Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire complete the AFCON quarter-final field

Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals through contrasting victories. Algeria needed extra time to beat DR Congo 1-0 in Rabat, while defending champions Côte d’Ivoire defeated Burkina Faso 3-0 in Marrakesh.
Substitute Adil Boulbina decided Algeria’s match in the 118th minute, five minutes after entering the game. His curling finish finally beat Lionel Mpasi-Nzau after the Congolese goalkeeper had kept the contest level with important saves.
Amad Diallo opened Côte d’Ivoire’s scoring and supplied Yan Diomandé for the second goal before a late third secured the result. The winners moved into quarter-final meetings with Nigeria and Egypt respectively, completing the last-eight line-up after the final day of round-of-sixteen action.
