FIDE and the International School Chess Federation announced that Almaty will host the Asian continental stage of the World Schools Team Championship. Teams arrive on 6 April and depart on 11 April, with the competition based at Hotel Kazakhstan.
The winning school qualifies directly for a Grand Final involving the four continental champions. Teams comprise four main players, a reserve and a non-playing captain. Players must have been born between 2012 and 2018, with schools’ enrolment verified by national federations.
The eight-round Swiss tournament requires at least one boy and one girl per team, subject to exceptions for single-gender schools. Registration closes on 20 March through member federations. Organiser support and an educational programme accompany the competition under the Year of Chess in Education initiative.
