Alysha Corrigan prepares for return to Canada sevens
The Saracens player switches formats ahead of the Singapore and Perth tournaments.
Source publication date:
Alysha Corrigan prepared to rejoin Canada’s sevens team for Singapore and Perth after playing for Saracens in Premiership Women’s Rugby. The twenty-nine-year-old Olympic and Women’s Rugby World Cup silver medallist described the demanding fitness transition between the two formats.
Corrigan trained individually at home before joining the Canadian squad, using the January gap in her club schedule for a sustained preparation block. She said switching between sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby develops different strengths, including athleticism, ball confidence and game management.
Canada had finished sixth at both Dubai and Cape Town while several experienced players were focused on the fifteen-a-side programme. Corrigan’s return adds another veteran to coach Jocelyn Barrieau’s group, with the player identifying Australia as a competitive target for the coming tournaments.
