Anisimova and Pegula post convincing opening victories
Two leading Americans advanced as other women’s seeds suffered first-round defeats.

Amanda Anisimova defeated Simona Waltert 6–3, 6–2 in the Australian Open first round. The fourth seed needed an hour at Margaret Court Arena and reduced her unforced errors from fifteen in the opening set to five in the second.
Jessica Pegula followed with a 6–2, 6–1 victory over Anastasia Zakharova at John Cain Arena. The sixth seed hit twenty winners and completed the match in sixty-six minutes, saying she had executed her intended strategy successfully against a first-time opponent.
The official report also recorded contrasting results for American seeds Sofia Kenin and Emma Navarro. Kenin lost to Peyton Stearns, while Magda Linette recovered from a set down to beat Navarro. Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, meanwhile, won her Melbourne debut against local entrant Emerson Jones.
