European partners launched AquaSafe Kids at a kickoff meeting in Malta, beginning a thirty-six-month project funded through Erasmus+ Sport. The national aquatic association coordinated the meeting with European Aquatics, six partner swimming federations, SportMalta and the University of Zagreb.

The initiative targets children’s water safety, drowning prevention and basic aquatic skills through age-appropriate education. Its first working day established priorities, implementation planning and collaboration arrangements, with attention to healthy lifestyles and the roles of educators and parents.

Partners also discussed curriculum development, pilot delivery and a future digital platform. Inclusion, including opportunities for children with disabilities, will guide the programme. The two-day meeting created the project’s initial governance and operational framework before its longer-term educational work proceeds across participating countries.
