Barcelona finish January with victory at Elche

Barcelona won 3-1 at Elche to close January at the top of La Liga. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring after six minutes when Dani Olmo’s pass released him to round goalkeeper Iñaki Peña and finish.

Álvaro Rodríguez brought Elche level, but Ferran Torres restored Barcelona’s lead before half-time. Torres had earlier hit the woodwork twice in a single sequence as the visitors created chances without immediately putting the game beyond reach.

Marcus Rashford eventually added a third following Yamal’s run down the right. Barcelona became only the second visiting team to win at the Estadio Martínez Valero that season and moved provisionally four points clear of Real Madrid, who were due to play on Sunday.
