Belouizdad end a thirty-year continental semi-final wait
A goalless draw against Al-Masry completed their Confederation Cup quarter-final.
Source publication date:
CR Belouizdad reached a continental semi-final for the first time since 1996 after drawing 0-0 with Al-Masry in Algiers. The result at Nelson Mandela Stadium followed a 1-1 first leg in Egypt and was enough to secure progression.
Belouizdad began aggressively and created opportunities through Mohamed Ali Ben Hammouda and Hussein Ben Ayada. Al-Masry gradually became more threatening, forcing goalkeeper Farid Chaal into action before the interval, but neither side could find a breakthrough.
The Egyptian visitors increased the pressure as the match approached its final stages, needing a goal to change the tie. Chaal and the home defence remained organised, keeping the clean sheet that allowed Belouizdad to celebrate a return to Africa’s last four.
