Source publication date:
Botswana completed its national team selection finals at Yarona Country Lodge, concluding a multi-stage championship in open and women’s sections. Mothudi Arnold Mogotsi won the open tournament as the federation settled its representatives for the 2026 Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan.
Sebetlela Gaasite, Thuto Mpene and Thuso Mosutha also qualified through the open selection. Highest-rated player Providence Oatlhotse joins them automatically. The process used round-robin competition, requiring contenders to face each other within their sections over the selection campaign.
The women’s qualifiers were Onkemetse Mendu Francis, Maya Otimile, Amolemo Atlang Mosweu and Laone Phoebe Moshoboro. Highest-rated female player Natalie Banda completes that team. The federation also highlighted Botswana’s forthcoming role as host of the African Individual Chess Championship in June.
