Source publication date:
British Judo finished the Sofia European Open with two silver medals and a bronze. Charlie Ayre reached the men’s sixty-kilogram final, securing his first podium result of 2026 after a bronze at the previous November’s Conegliano European Open.
Ethan Nairne also won silver in the seventy-three-kilogram category, progressing from the round of thirty-two without conceding a score before a single yuko decided the final against his Bulgarian opponent. The result was his first international medal since July 2025.
Lele Nairne completed the British tally with bronze at fifty-seven kilograms in her first international competition since the Paris Olympics. Her successful return followed domestic appearances, while Ayre’s performance provided momentum before a planned further competition at the Ljubljana European Open.
