Stade Malien beat Petro de Luanda 2-0 in Bamako to lead CAF Champions League Group D with seven points. Second-half goals from Taddeus Nkeng and Mamadou Traoré gave the Malian team a two-point advantage over its nearest challengers.
Nkeng converted after a misplaced goal kick, with Traoré supplying the pass. The captain then scored himself after another defensive error allowed Ousmane Coulibaly to deliver a low cross, and Stade Malien protected the resulting lead.
In Lubumbashi, St Éloi Lupopo defeated MC Alger 1-0 through Michael Kimputu’s stoppage-time penalty. Enock Molia was fouled inside the area before the decisive kick, earning Lupopo its first group victory and lifting the Congolese club to four points.
