Cameroon and Morocco progress through tight AFCON ties

Cameroon and Morocco secured places in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after narrow victories in Rabat. Cameroon defeated South Africa 2-1, while the hosts overcame Tanzania 1-0 in the other match covered by CAF’s report.
Junior Tchamadeu gave Cameroon the lead and Christian Kofane doubled it early in the second half. Evidence Makgopa’s late goal revived South Africa’s hopes, but goalkeeper Devis Epassy and his defenders protected the remaining advantage.
Brahim Díaz scored Morocco’s winner against Tanzania in the 63rd minute, finishing from a tight angle after the teams had reached half-time level. The two results set up a quarter-final between Cameroon and Morocco, with both advancing after opponents tested their defensive composure.
