Viran Chamuditha scored 192 against Japan to establish a new highest individual innings at the men’s Under-19 World Cup. The Sri Lankan opener faced 143 balls, struck 26 fours and one six, and was eventually dismissed by Timothy Moore.
His total exceeded compatriot Hasitha Boyagoda’s previous record of 191, set against Kenya in 2018. The new mark came in Sri Lanka’s first match of the tournament, immediately giving the side a major batting milestone.
Chamuditha also shared a 328-run opening partnership with Dimantha Mahavithana. That was the tournament’s highest stand for any wicket, passing the 303 added by England’s Dan Lawrence and Jack Burnham against Fiji in 2016 and helping Sri Lanka set Japan a target of 388.
