China PR start their title defence with a win
Two first-half goals secured a 2-0 result against Bangladesh.
Source publication date:
China PR began their Women’s Asian Cup title defence with a 2-0 win against Bangladesh at Western Sydney Stadium. The nine-time champions scored twice shortly before the interval, joining DPR Korea as the early leaders in Group B.
Bangladesh goalkeeper Mile Akter made several interventions and Wang Shuang had a headed goal disallowed after a VAR review. Wang eventually scored with a powerful shot from Zhang Chengxue’s pass before Zhang Rui reacted to a weak clearance for the second goal.
Bangladesh improved after half-time and limited the damage, although Akter remained busy and a late Chinese corner clipped the crossbar. China PR preserved the two-goal margin before a fixture against Uzbekistan, while debutants Bangladesh faced another demanding match against DPR Korea.
