Emily Ausmus scored six goals in the final, while goalkeeper Amanda Longan made 13 saves. The USA won the opening two quarters 4-3 and 3-2; the teams then shared an eight-goal third period before the Americans kept Spain scoreless in the fourth.
Spain’s silver was its first in the competition. The defeat did not erase the significance of reaching the final, but the confirmed championship belonged to the United States.
Australia beat Russia 12-9 for bronze. Tilly Kearns received the tournament’s most valuable player award, and Longan was named best goalkeeper. The final result and awards are distinct from earlier qualification or group-stage reports.
