Chouiar’s late winner sends Berkane into the last four
Berkane defeated Al-Hilal 1-0 in Kigali to win their quarter-final 2-1 overall.
Source publication date:
RS Berkane reached their first CAF Champions League semi-final after a late 1-0 victory over Al-Hilal in Kigali. Munir Chouiar struck in the ninety-third minute at Amahoro Stadium, completing a 2-1 aggregate success for the Moroccan club.
The tie remained close after a goalless first half. Al-Hilal appeared to score through Adama Coulibaly, but a VAR review disallowed the effort and awarded Berkane a penalty for an earlier infringement. Chouiar’s spot kick was saved, keeping the contest level.
Chouiar eventually made the decisive contribution when Zinedine Machach supplied him inside the penalty area. His low finish ended Al-Hilal’s campaign and established an all-Moroccan semi-final against AS FAR, who had already secured their own place.
