Costa Rica prepares chess education summit and school pilot
The San José gathering will connect policymakers, teachers and regional chess organisations.

FIDE announced a Chess and Education Summit in San José on 20–21 March as part of its Year of Chess in Education. The Costa Rican federation, Confederation of Chess for the Americas and education ministry are partners in the event.
The programme focuses on practical classroom integration, inclusion and student wellbeing. A central outcome is a pilot bringing chess into ten Costa Rican schools. Invited ministerial delegations include Guatemala, Venezuela and El Salvador, alongside Costa Rican education and sports authorities.
The Costa Rica Tennis Club will host keynote sessions on the first day and workshops on the second. In-person and virtual participation are available, and a women’s tournament coordinated by Carolina Muñoz is planned for 20 March.
