The Confederation Cup quarter-final remained level before the Cairo return.
Source publication date:
Zamalek recovered to draw 1-1 with Otoho in Brazzaville in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final. Oday Dabbagh’s equaliser gave the Egyptian club an away goal to carry into the return at Cairo International Stadium.
Charles Atipo put Otoho ahead with an early free kick from outside the penalty area. The hosts continued to threaten, but Zamalek gradually gained possession and levelled when Ahmed Rabie supplied Dabbagh for a first-time finish before half-time.
Both teams created second-half opportunities without finding another goal. Seifeddine Jaziri had an effort ruled out for offside, while goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi made a late intervention against Atipo’s dangerous cross. Otoho also came close in added time, but Zamalek retained the draw.
