De Minaur sweeps past Bublik into quarterfinals
The Australian ended the Kazakhstani player’s unbeaten start to the year.
Source publication date:
Alex de Minaur defeated Alexander Bublik 6–4, 6–1, 6–1 to reach the Australian Open quarterfinals for the second successive year. The world number six completed the fourth-round match in one hour and thirty-two minutes, committing only ten unforced errors at Rod Laver Arena.
Bublik arrived unbeaten in 2026 but struggled to establish his serve and baseline game. A double fault conceded the opening set, and De Minaur increasingly controlled the exchanges through efficient serving, depth and movement that denied the tenth-ranked opponent reliable attacking opportunities.
De Minaur said he had prepared carefully after losing their previous two meetings in Paris during 2025. The victory earned a quarterfinal against Carlos Alcaraz, with the Australian seeking a first win over the world number one and a deeper run at his home major.
