Dhawornvej and Watanabe take junior snowboard slopestyle titles
Both teenagers improved on difficult opening runs to win the Calgary finals.
Source publication date:
Lily Dhawornvej won women’s snowboard slopestyle at the Park and Pipe Junior World Championships in Calgary with a second-run score of 83.75. The sixteen-year-old American recovered from an unclean opening attempt to defeat Japan’s Suzuka Ishimoto on 80 and Jessica Perlmutter on 77.
Dhawornvej and Perlmutter had both recently reached the Olympic slopestyle final on debut. The junior title gave Dhawornvej her second podium of the season after finishing runner-up at the Laax Open, linking strong senior performances with success at WinSport Canada Olympic Park.
Fourteen-year-old Hiromu Watanabe won the men’s final with 93.25 points after scoring only seventeen on his first run. American Colin Frans took silver with 89.25, and Ukraine’s Dmytro Luchkin earned bronze on 84.50.
