Domen Prevc won the men’s World Cup contest in Sapporo for his eighth victory of the season. He trailed Jan Hoerl by 1.3 points after the opening round before a 141-metre second jump turned the competition in his favour.

Naoki Nakamura finished second with 263.6 points, the best result of his career and his second World Cup podium. Fellow Japanese jumper Ren Nikaido took third with 257.6, giving the home crowd two athletes to celebrate.

Hoerl dropped to fourth, while Ryoyu Kobayashi recovered from tenth at halfway to finish fifth. Prevc returned to the top step after placing twenty-seventh in Zakopane and extended his overall World Cup lead to more than four hundred points.
