Auguste Dussourd and Melvil Scianimanico reached the Australian Open quarterfinals with victories over seeded opponents. Dussourd recovered from two games to one down to defeat sixth seed Dimitri Steinmann 11–6, 5–11, 7–11, 11–1, 11–7 in seventy-nine minutes.
Scianimanico beat seventh seed Curtis Malik 9–11, 12–10, 11–9, 11–3, also in seventy-nine minutes. An elbow collision near the end of the third game caused a cut beneath the Frenchman’s eye and an extended stoppage, but he regained focus after treatment.
Dussourd described the pair supporting each other during their matches at Sandgate Squash Club. Top seeds Paul Coll and Sivasangari Subramaniam advanced comfortably on the glass court at South Bank Piazza, while second seeds Joel Makin and Tinne Gilis each needed four games to progress.
