Egypt need extra time to overcome Benin

Egypt defeated Benin 3-1 after extra time to reach the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. The last-sixteen match at the Grand Stade d’Agadir stayed goalless until Marwan Attia’s strike from the edge of the area in the 69th minute.
Jodel Dossou responded in the 83rd minute after a defensive error, sending the game into extra time. Benin had earlier frustrated Egypt through disciplined defending and goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou’s saves, while also threatening on the counterattack.
Yasser Ibrahim restored Egypt’s lead with a header in the 97th minute. Mohamed Salah finished a late counterattack to secure qualification, leaving the Pharaohs to await the winner of Côte d’Ivoire’s match against Burkina Faso in the next knockout round.
