Source publication date:
Egypt reached the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals by defeating defending champions Côte d’Ivoire 3-2. Mohamed Salah scored and provided an assist as the Pharaohs converted key opportunities and resisted sustained pressure from the Ivorians.
Omar Marmoush opened the scoring after four minutes from Emam Ashour’s pass. Ramy Rabia then headed in Salah’s corner before an Ahmed Fatouh own goal brought Côte d’Ivoire back into the contest before half-time.
Salah restored Egypt’s two-goal margin after the interval, with Ashour again involved in the build-up. Guéla Doué reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute, but Mohamed El Shenawy and his defenders protected the lead to secure a semi-final against Senegal.
