Source publication date:
Austria defeated Serbia 26–25 in Herning to claim their first European Championship victory under coach Iker Romero. Although Austria could no longer advance, the result confirmed Spain’s main-round place before their match with Germany and left Serbia waiting on that later outcome.
Serbia led 13–12 at half-time after turning an Austrian advantage into a late 5–1 run. Austria improved after the restart, supported by Constantin Möstl’s saves, and Eric Damböck supplied a three-goal lead with seven minutes remaining.
Tobias Wagner converted all six attempts, including the goal for 26–23, before Serbia reduced the final gap. Möstl received the match award after eleven saves, and Austria registered their tenth victory in European Championship history.
