Denmark and Portugal finished 29–31 in Herning.
Source publication date:
Portugal defeated co-hosts Denmark 31–29 in Herning to win European Championship group B. Both teams advanced, but Portugal carried two points into the main round after ending Denmark’s unbeaten run at Jyske Bank Boxen since the 2014 European final.
Portugal’s defence restricted Denmark to eleven first-half goals and established a 12–11 interval lead. Denmark increased the intensity after the restart, but Portugal continued to respond despite the home crowd and the later dismissal of line player Victor Iturriza.
Francisco and Martim Costa scored nine goals each, with Martim supplying Portugal’s final goal despite close marking. António Areia added six, including important late contributions, as Denmark suffered only their second defeat at the arena.
