Denmark defeated defending champions France 32–29 in Herning to regain momentum after their preliminary loss to Portugal. Only Denmark’s second European Championship victory over France put both sides on two main-round points, behind Germany, after the opening group I fixtures.

France led 12–11 at half-time as Denmark struggled with mistakes and missed chances despite Emil Nielsen’s saves. Denmark improved after the restart but again trailed 23–21 in the forty-eighth minute, requiring another recovery in the closing phase.

Emil Jakobsen scored five of Denmark’s next six goals, including the strike that restored the lead. Mathias Gidsel finished with nine, while Nielsen made eleven saves and received the match award as France suffered their first tournament defeat.
