France defeated Portugal 46–38 in Herning in the highest-scoring match in men’s European Championship history. Their eighty-four combined goals surpassed the eighty-one scored by Slovenia and Montenegro earlier in the tournament, while France equalled their own record of forty-six goals in a game.

France established an extraordinary 28–15 half-time lead, setting records for a team’s goals in one half and for both sides’ combined half-time total. Portugal’s missed chances and turnovers contributed to the large gap before the interval.

Dika Mem converted all eight attempts and received the match award. All thirteen French outfield players who appeared scored, lifting France to four main-round points while Portugal remained on two after a second defeat in the stage.
