Iceland defeated Sweden 35–27 in Malmö to record their first European Championship main-round victory and hand the co-hosts their first tournament defeat. The result moved Iceland to four points alongside Sweden and Slovenia, leaving the group’s semi-final race open.

Iceland led 18–12 at half-time after a highly efficient opening period. Sweden fought back with four consecutive goals and reduced the deficit to one, but Iceland regained a clearer advantage and prevented the home team from completing the comeback.

Viggó Kristjánsson converted all eleven attempts and received the match award, while Viktor Hallgrímsson made twelve saves. It was Iceland’s first victory over Sweden since 2018, and the result meant no team remained unbeaten at the tournament.
