Hungary defeated Italy 32–26 in Kristianstad to secure a European Championship main-round place. The result also confirmed Iceland’s qualification from group F after their earlier victory over Poland, leaving the two advancing sides to meet for carried points in the final preliminary round.

Italy remained competitive through a close first half, with Hungary leading only 14–13 at the interval. The contest stayed tight until the middle of the second half, when Hungary’s greater consistency began to produce a decisive difference.

An 8–3 run in the final thirteen minutes established the winning margin. Bence Imre scored nine goals for Hungary, while Simone Mengon contributed six for Italy and goalkeeper Domenico Ebner received the match award after thirteen saves.
