The Faroe Islands defeated Montenegro 37–24 in Bærum to record their first victory at a European Championship or any major tournament. The win raised their group D total to three points after an opening draw against Switzerland and strengthened their prospects of progressing.
The Faroese moved ahead after an early 4–4 tie and led 19–12 at half-time. Hákun av Teigum scored six first-half goals, while seven-against-six attacking play helped create opportunities when Montenegro pressed the back court.
Goalkeeper Pauli Jacobsen made sixteen saves and received the player-of-the-match award. Óli Mittún converted all ten of his shots as the advantage reached double figures early in the second half, allowing the team to complete a commanding result.
