Switzerland defeated Montenegro 43–26 in Bærum to record their biggest European Championship victory and keep their main-round hopes alive. The seventeen-goal margin surpassed the previous national record of seven from a 2020 win against Poland, significantly improving Switzerland’s goal difference.

Switzerland led from the beginning and reached half-time ahead 22–15. Lenny Rubin and Luca Sigrist each scored ten goals, repeatedly exploiting weaknesses in Montenegro’s defence, while Mathieu Seravalli made twelve saves after replacing Nikola Portner.

The result ended Switzerland’s six-year wait for a European finals victory, but progression still depended on Slovenia defeating the Faroe Islands later that night. Montenegro, already eliminated before the match, completed their campaign without reaching the next stage.
