Iceland defeated Slovenia 39–31 in Malmö to return to the European Championship semi-finals for the first time since 2010. The result put Iceland back into a medal contest sixteen years after the bronze-winning campaign that marked their previous appearance at this stage.

Slovenia remained competitive during a close opening half, although Iceland reached the interval ahead 18–16. Elliði Viðarsson and Orri Freyr Þorkelsson helped stretch that advantage to 26–20 ten minutes into the second period, creating the decisive separation.

Viðarsson scored eight goals and was named player of the match. Ómar Ingi Magnússon and Óðinn Ríkharðsson added seven each, while Domen Novak converted all nine of his attempts for Slovenia.
