Sweden defeated Slovenia 35–31 in Malmö to move alone to the top of European Championship main-round group II on four points. The co-hosts maintained their unbeaten tournament record after trailing at half-time for the first time during the competition.

Slovenian goalkeeper Jože Baznik’s early saves helped establish a 5–2 lead, and Slovenia reached the interval ahead 15–13. Sweden immediately responded with four unanswered goals after the restart, then held the advantage despite several Slovenian efforts to draw level.

Lukas Sandell scored seven goals and received the match award, while Domen Makuc contributed eight for Slovenia. Sandell’s goal for 34–31 with seventy seconds remaining secured the outcome; Andreas Palicka and Borut Mačkovšek both reached forty European Championship appearances.
