Source publication date:
Spain defeated France 36–32 in Herning to complicate the defending champions’ European Championship semi-final prospects. Spain were already out of the medal race, but their victory left France needing to beat Germany and also depend on other results in the final main-round fixtures.
Ian Barrufet scored seven first-half goals as Spain used a 7–1 run to take control and lead 20–14 at the interval. France recovered behind Rémi Desbonnet and cut the difference to one with fourteen minutes remaining.
Sergey Hernández’s saves then supported a renewed Spanish surge, and a 7–3 run restored control. Barrufet finished with ten from eleven attempts and the match award, while Hernández made fourteen saves in the victory.
