Iceland salvage a late point from a high-scoring Swiss challenge

Iceland and Switzerland drew 38–38 in Malmö, leaving Iceland on five European Championship main-round points. Switzerland controlled much of the match and came close to a first win in this stage, but Iceland’s late equaliser preserved a valuable point in the semi-final race.
The teams were tied 19–19 at half-time after Switzerland had opened a three-goal lead. Switzerland regained the advantage after a brief Icelandic spell following the interval and remained ahead until the final minutes.
Iceland equalised into an empty net, but Samuel Röthlisberger blocked Viggó Kristjánsson’s final attempt to win the match. Noam Leopold scored seven from seven for Switzerland and took the match award; Elliði Viðarsson and Orri Freyr Þorkelsson scored eight each.
