The Swede shot clean and accelerated past Minkkinen on the final loop.
Source publication date:
Elvira Oeberg won the women’s 7.5km sprint in Oberhof in 22:00.6, securing her first victory and first podium of the season. She hit all ten targets after a difficult opening trimester affected by illness.
Finland’s Suvi Minkkinen led Oeberg after both shooting stages, but the Swedish athlete turned the race around with superior speed on the last loop. Minkkinen finished 21.1 seconds behind, while France’s Julia Simon took third, another 2.5 seconds back.
The three podium finishers all shot clean. Maren Kirkeeide finished fourth, and Germany’s Franziska Preuss and Janina Hettich-Walz completed the top six, each with one penalty. Oeberg attributed the breakthrough to concentrating on her own race.
