England opens Super Eight with 51-run victory over Sri Lanka

England defeated Sri Lanka by 51 runs in its opening T20 World Cup Super Eight match in Kandy. After being restricted to 146/9, England dismissed the co-host for 95 in 16.4 overs to secure a successful start to the second stage.
Phil Salt’s 62 held England’s innings together on a slow surface, and Will Jacks added 21 from 14 deliveries. Dunith Wellalage took 3/26, while Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka claimed two wickets apiece.
Jacks then returned 3/22 after being introduced early in Sri Lanka’s chase. Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson each took two wickets. Dasun Shanaka’s 30 provided the hosts’ main resistance, and Jacks was named player of the match.
